Kicking A$$ in the New Year is Wayland, a 4-piece rock band named after the hometown of its members: Phillip Vilenski (gtr), Mitch Arnold (vox/gtr), Dean Pizzaz (bss) and Tyler Coburn (drms). Not content staying in the Michigan suburb and already
carving a reputation as local hard-rock heroes, Wayland packed up a van and moved to sunny Los Angeles in order to “Make it.” While living in LA, the band played any gig they could until they met Jude Cole (Lifehouse), who identified that this is a band that belongs in the Midwest and challenged them to get back to their roots in the heart of Middle America. After some convincing, the band agreed and moved back to Wayland, Michigan where everything fell into place.
The band made friends with nationally syndicated morning radio show Free Beer And Hot Wings by bringing breakfast in exchange for airplay. One of the morning DJs was skeptical of Wayland for reaching out like this, but after one spin of Wayland’s single “Welcome To My Head,” listeners immediately fell in love with the song and stood up for the guys. That single and others soon made frequent rotation!
Enjoying giant local success, Wayland wasted no time in hitting the road in a donated RV and they haven’t looked back. The band has been on the road non-stop since Jan 5th 2012, with no plans to go home anytime soon. Wayland’s a terrific example of a hard-working/hard-playing band that deserves its success and then some. Check out the band’s excellent website and go LIKE their Facebook page, too!
