Matt and I have been making the rounds, trying to sniff out emerging bands who are playing gigs regularly and promoting their self-made albums. Last night we rolled out to the unlikely site of the ep release party for one of our favorite local bands, The Good Mad. The party was at the Left Coast Wine Bar & Gallery in Glendale, a cozy spot with a vast selection of wine (and beer: Red Trolley on tap = yum), but definitely lacking as a performance space for audiences that number in the double digits. The upstairs room is commodious enough for a sleepover, but don’t count on cramming more than 20 people up there. Still fun was watching the band perform songs from their new ep ALTA– beautiful people with lots of beautiful friends all sipping wine and listening to beautiful music. While I personally like stuff a little rougher around the edges, the eve was fun and I felt really refined despite my dirty fingernails. Tonight we’re checking out Witz End in Venice to see Jeff Curtis play at 10, so come out and say hi.
